Bunaíodh Scoil Náisúnta Inis Chléire i 1897. Is Gaelscoil í agus is í an Ghaeilge teanga cumarsáide agus teagaisc na scoile. Is í aidhm na scoile ná go n-úsáidfí an Ghaeilge mar theanga beo sa scoil. Is scoil lánghaelach, Caitliceach, comhoideachasúil í an scoil atá suite ar Chléire, oileán Gaeltacht i ndeisceart na hÉireann, 3 mhíle ar fhad le míle ar leithead, 8 míle amach ó chósta Iarthar Chorcaí. Tá dhá sheomra ranga sa scoil, agus seomra SET amháin. Tá réimse leathan acmhainní teagaisc agus foghlama nua-aimseartha ar fáil sna seomraí ranga chun cabhrú le teagasc agus foghlaim, lena n-áirítear clár bán idirghníomhach i ngach seomra ranga.
‘Sé príomh aidhm na scoile seo ná oideachais bunscoile de ard chaighdeán a chur ar fáil trí mheán na Gaeilge do pháistí an Oileán. Cruthaítear suíomh Ghaelach, suaimhneach sona sa scoil do na páistí mar creidtear má tá páistí sona go dtreisíonn sé a gcumas foghlamtha. Déantar forbairt iomlán ar ilthréithe an ghasúir ag tógáil san áireamh go bhfuil cumas agus riachtanaisí éagsúla ag chuile ghasúir. Is é an fís atá againn do na páistí sa scoil ná go mothaidís sásta, sábháilte agus go nglactar leo sa scoil, go mothaidís go dtuigtear iad agus go mbeidís muiníneach go n-aithnítear iad mar dhaoine aonair iontacha in ainneoin a gcumais, go mbeadh féachaint chuige acu dóibh féin agus dá gcomhaoisigh, go mbeadh féin dhearcadh agus aitheantais chultúrtha acu, go mbeadh meas acu orthu féin agus ar dhaoine eile. Tabharfar gach deis do chuile pháiste an cumas iomlán atá iontu a bhaint amach trí gach spreagadh a sholáthar dóibh.
Spreagtar na páistí bheith bródúil as a gcultúr agus a n-oidhreacht ghaelach agus cuirtear an-bhéim ar ghnéithe den chultúir mar an teanga, ceol, damhsa, drámaíocht, spóirt, stair agus litríocht. Mar chuid den snáithe Oiliúint Uisce sa chorpoideachas, faigheann páistí ó rang a haon go rang a sé ceachtanna snámha in Ionad Fóillíochta Pobail Dhún na Séad. Baineann na páistí taitneamh freisin as ceachtanna curachóireacht sa chuan áitiúil. Múineann ceoltóirí áitiúla cumasacha ceachtanna ceoil. Foghlaimíonn páistí conas uirlisí éagsúla a seinm m.sh. an fheadóg stáin, an téipthaifeadán, an melodica agus an t-úkulele.
Is é suíomh oileán iargúlta Chléire, mar aon lena chóngaracht don scairbh ilchríochach, an t-ionad is fearr le haghaidh faire éan in Éirinn. Déantar míolta móra, turtair leathair, iasc gréine, deilfeanna agus siorcanna a fheiceáil go rialta gach bliain. Faigheann na páistí taithí phearsanta ar na himeachtaí seo go léir.
About
Cape Clear National School was founded in 1897. It is an all Irish, Catholic, co-educational primary school situated on Cape Clear, Ireland’s southernmost inhabited Gaeltacht island. It is 3 miles long by 1 mile wide and lies 8 miles off the coast of West Cork. The school comprises of two classrooms, and one SET room. All our classrooms are equipped with a wide variety of modern teaching and learning resources to assist teaching and learning, including an interactive whiteboard in each classroom.
It is our aim to provide the best standard of education through the medium of Irish for the children of Cape Clear. We create a happy, peaceful, cultural environment for children because we believe that when children feel happy and secure it strengthens their ability to learn. We aim to ensure that each child will achieve his/her full potential in our school’s pleasant and stimulating learning environment taking into consideration that each child is unique in ability and need. Our vision for the children of the school is that they would feel safe, accepted and happy in their school environment, that they would feel understood and secure in the knowledge that they are recognised as wonderful individuals regardless of ability, that they would be ambitious for themselves and their peers, that they would have a sense of self and cultural identity and that they would be developing respect for themselves and others. Children are encouraged to be proud of their Irish culture and heritage and a huge emphasis is placed on all aspects of our culture such as the Irish language, music, dancing, drama, sport, history and literacy. As part of the Aquatics strand in PE, children from first class through to sixth class each receive swimming lessons at Baltimore Community Leisure Centre. Children also enjoy kayaking lessons, in the local harbour. Music lessons are taught by accomplished local musicians and children learn how to play various instruments e.g. the tin whistle, recorder, melodica and Ukulele.
Cape Clear’s remote island location, coupled with its proximity to the continental shelf, makes it the foremost centre for bird watching in Ireland. Whales, leatherback turtles, sun fish, dolphins and sharks are spotted regularly every year. The children get first-hand experience of all these events.
